What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are wafer-thin pieces of porcelain or composite resin affixed to the front of your natural, permanent teeth. Dental veneers support and strengthen your natural tooth enamel while addressing aesthetic imperfections.
What types of issues can veneers correct?
Dental veneers are incredibly versatile and much less invasive than crowns or traditional braces. At A Beautiful Smile at Lake Pointe, Dr. Jue uses dental veneers to address minor cosmetic issues, including:
- Small misalignments
Dr. Jue also recommends veneers for people who don’t benefit from traditional in-office teeth whitening treatments.
What is the process for getting dental veneers?
Getting dental veneers requires two separate appointments.
At your first appointment, Dr. Jue performs a comprehensive oral exam to determine whether or not you’re a good candidate. During this time, he also takes X-rays and asks you a series of questions about your goals for treatment.
If your teeth are healthy and Dr. Jue thinks you can benefit from dental veneers, he administers a local anesthetic, numbing your teeth and gums. Next, he carefully removes a fine layer of enamel from your teeth and takes a series of impressions. A dental laboratory receives your impressions and molds your custom veneers based on the information provided.
Between two and four weeks later, you return to the office for a second appointment. Dr. Jue cuts your veneers to match the shape and curvature of your teeth. Once that’s finished, he bonds them in place, using high-quality dental cement. Lastly, Dr. Jue polishes your veneers, ensuring they mimic the look and feel of your natural, permanent teeth.
Are dental veneers permanent?
Dental veneers won’t last forever, but if you take good care of them, they can last for an average of between 7-15 years. If you want to save money and prevent early replacement, brush and floss twice each day and visit the dentist once every six months for a professional exam and cleaning.
